Every Monday through Friday, we deliver a different song as part of our Song of the Day podcast subscription. This podcast features exclusive KEXP in-studio performances, unreleased songs, and recordings from independent artists that our DJs think you should hear. Today’s selection, featured on The Morning Show with John Richards, is “Queens” by La Sera from the 2016 Queens EP on Polyvinyl Records.

La Sera – Queens (MP3)La Sera was formed in 2010 by Katy Goodman of Vivian Girls, along with Todd Wisenbaker, perhaps best known for his work with Jenny Lewis and Johnathan Rice (producing their sole album under the moniker Jenny & Johnny) as well as his collaboration with Ryan Adams, covering the Taylor Swift album 1989.  Adams went on to produce La Sera’s most recent full-length album, Music for Listening to Music To, the band’s first LP since leaving Seattle label Hardly Art. Adams also produced La Sera’s recent single, “Queens,” a summery, upbeat tune, perfect for a leisurely stroll through East Hollywood at dusk – fitting, considering that Wisenbaker wrote the song after a “leisurely stroll through East Hollywood at dusk”.

La Sera is fresh off a US tour promoting Music for Listening to Music To and have no plans yet to get back on the road. Until they do, keep up with them through their website and Facebook page. For now, check out their blistering cover of Led Zeppelin’s “Whole Lotta Love”, also on the Queens EP:
